Sets and costumes from famous shows and movies, technical sketches, staging acts from plays and famous creators are the reference points of the Bucharest Scenography Biennale. The event is back after a 32-year hiatus, having previously been held every three years. Now, until October 27, it celebrates Romanian and international scenographic art. Hosted by iconic venues in Bucharest, including the I.L. Caragiale National Theatre, Ion Creang\u0103 Theatre, Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism, I.L. Caragiale National University of Theatre and Cinema and the National University of Arts Bucharest, the biennial is centered in Amzei Square. Here you can visit the national scenography exhibition – which highlights the most valuable Romanian scenographic creations, including sketches, photographs, models, costumes and set design elements, including video art, light and sound design – and “Young Design”, composed of works by students from three faculties in the country – UNArte, UNATC and UAT T\u00e2rgu Mure\u0219, as well as students from the University of Architecture and Urbanism “Ion Mincu” (UAUIM). Doina Levintza, Lia Man\u021boc, Viorica Petrovici, Helmut St\u00fcrmer and \u0218tefan Caragiu are among the renowned creators represented here, and among the pieces that have made history are the rhinoceros created by St\u00fcrmer for the show “Faust” staged by Silviu Purc\u0103rete at the Radu Stanca National Theatre in Sibiu, and the giant hands from the show “The Hanged Man’s Forest” directed by Radu Afrim at the TNB.
\nThe exhibitions, which include a segment dedicated to movie costumes by costume designer Oana P\u0103unescu, are complemented by videos and photos from rehearsals and performances. Helmut St\u00fcrmer, a Romanian-German theater and film set designer and a leading figure in international scenography, is the artistic director of the Bucharest Biennial of Scenography<\/a>, and the national exhibition is designed by architect Attila Kim.<\/p>\n
