Corneliu Vasilescu – Easel painting and graphics in retrospective
Corneliu Vasilescu (1934, Bârlad – 2023, Alba Iulia) has brought together more than one hundred easel paintings and graphic works in a retrospective of his seven-decade career.
The exhibition is hosted, from January 15 to February 8, in the Tancred Bănățeanu Hall of the Romanian Peasant National Museum.
The exhibition aims to offer visitors the story of an artistic career spanning over seven decades and a broad perspective on the work of Corneliu Vasilescu.
The works on display follow the artistic career of this creator, starting with the earliest, dated 1951, and ending with the most recent, realized between 2018 and 2020. From the figurative figurative of the beginnings to the gestural expressionism that has consecrated him, the retrospective aims to redefine through stages and works, valuable facets of Corneliu Vasilescu’s thinking, concerned with the message of art and its value: “Art, in its decantation from any narrative, can be constituted as a system: a parallel strategy in the philosophical and the theological system in order to reach the absolute”.
The works in the retrospective are part of the family collection and the fund donated by the artist to the “Vasile Pârvan” Museum in Bârlad.
The exhibition can be visited at the Tancred Bănățeanu Hall, from January 15 to February 8, from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10:00 and 18:00.
