Dan Perjovschi. Romania – A Retrospective 1985–2025
The most important retrospective of artist Dan Perjovschi will transform the former tram depot in Timișoara, now the Corneliu Miklosi Museum, into a manifesto space for four decades of creation.
“Dan Perjovschi. Romania – A Retrospective 1985–2025” brings together drawings, performances, civic actions, protests, publications, and ephemeral installations, composing a fresco of Romania over the last 40 years.
Opening program: 6:30 p.m., official opening; 7:00 p.m., guided tour with Dan Perjovschi; 8:00 p.m., guided tour with Monica Dănilă, curator; 8:30 p.m., drinks & chill with DJ Widovski. Free admission.
Dan Perjovschi, recognized internationally for his incisive, ironic, and deeply political style, has exhibited in some of the most prestigious contemporary art institutions and events: from MoMA New York, Tate Modern London, Centre Pompidou Paris, Moderna Museet Stockholm to Documenta Kassel, the Venice Biennale, the Istanbul Biennial, the Sydney Biennale, and Manifesta.
”My career has been a roller coaster ride through biennials, protests, newspapers, museums, and independent spaces. My drawings are visual editorials, preserving something of the Revolution. Black and white, like the free press of the early 1990s. My practice is like water: I infiltrate everywhere, I don’t make hierarchies—the largest museum in the world and the smallest artist-run space are equally important. I have freedom and therefore all the responsibility,” says Dan Perjovschi.
The exhibition is curated by Magda Radu, Mihaela Tilincă, Dana Sarmeș, Monica Dănilă, and Simona Constantin, each addressing an essential dimension of the artist’s practice.
It can be visited between September 3 and October 26, 2025, Tuesday through Sunday, between 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Admission is free.
The exhibition is accompanied by an extensive program of cultural mediation and related events: daily guided tours, workshops for children and families, dialogues, artist talks, live performances, book launches, and fanzines. More details to be announced.
