Lost among possibilities – Sergiu Chihaia on fragility and balance
„Lost in a Forrest of Possibilities” is a three-part installation by Sergiu Chihaia exhibited outdoors for the first time. It signals the entrance to the RAD sculpture park in the CARO gardens, which ends on May 25.
His work comes from nature and speaks of its fragility. “That’s what I’m doing now: I’m playing with some twigs, balancing them. They are not stuck together, they are natural joints,” says the artist.
Sergiu Chihaia (b. 1982) has been collecting pieces of twigs from the roads he has traveled for half a year. “I used to see them thrown or in parks and forests and I collected them. I didn’t see them as dead twigs, they seemed quite alive to me and that they still had a lot to say. I brought them into the studio, turned them all around and… it was quite a natural process. I’m talking about the fragility of nature. We see her as strong, but she really needs our support. I come with this message: nature has a balance of its own and, unfortunately, we humans are always managing to mess it up,” he explains the concept of the work.
