Thirty-five museums from 17 countries nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award 2026
The European Museum Forum (EMF) has announced the nominees for the European Museum of the Year Award 2026 (EMYA2026). Thirty-five museums have been chosen by the jury to participate in this year’s edition.
EMYA was set up in 1977 by the Council of Europe to recognize excellence, innovation and public quality in European museums, promoting democracy, human rights and cultural understanding.
No Romanian museum is on the shortlist this year. It includes museums from Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Switzerland, Turkey, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
They include the Museum of Ethnography in Budapest, MUDE – Design Museum in Lisbon, CERN Science Gateway in Meyrin and the Young V&A in London.
The EMYA2026 winners will be announced on June 13 at the EMYA2026 Annual Conference and Awards Ceremony, which will take place in Bilbao from June 10-14, 2026.
Organized by the European Museum Forum and hosted by Euskararen Etxea and its Basque Language Interpretation Centre – the 2025 winner of the Council of Europe Museum Prize – this event will bring together the community of past nominees and winners, partners, friends and this year’s nominated museums.
