Romanian Museum of Architecture developed
Romanian Order of Architects (OAR) has announced a competition to choose a curatorial project for the Museum of Architecture, and submissions are expected by October 31, 2025.
The call is for innovative and visionary teams for a four-year curatorial program that brings architecture to the heart of the community.
The idea of a museum for architecture originated about 135 years ago, when a group of Romanian architects, most of them trained in Paris, founded the Society of Architects of the Kingdom of Romania (SAR). Today, in the context of consultation with professionals from various fields of activity, the Museum of Architecture is taking its first steps towards fruition. The call documentation is available on the website muza.oar.archi.
“The year 2025 represents a crucial moment for the Romanian Order of Architects to make an exemplary founding gesture in the spirit of public interest, by establishing the Romanian Museum of Architecture. When architecture is at the heart of discussions about the public good, when the profession is recognized as a resource for development and addressing society’s major problems – social, environmental, cultural – the benefit is general. Architecture and spatial planning have consistently contributed to the development of our towns and villages and can be tools for mitigating risks, negotiating conflicts, creating resilient, inclusive and safe spaces for the just functioning of society. Not recognizing and acknowledging this contribution and potential denies us the chance to grow coherent and healthy as a society. The Museum of Architecture will contribute to changing this situation, by valorizing the creation of architecture, the profession and those who practice it”, says Ștefan Bâlici, President of the Romanian Order of Architects.
MuzA will strengthen its organizational structure, will acquire its own space and will set up a board of directors and a scientific board. It will also develop a policy of acquisitions, digitization and virtual valorization of Romanian architecture.
Romanian Museum of Architecture is a strategic priority project of public interest of the Romanian Architectural Association, funded by the Architecture Revenue.
