Constantin Brancusi in Amsterdam for the first time in half a century
Important works by the sculptor Constantin Brâncuși will travel from the Pompidou Center in Paris to the H’ART Museum Amsterdam from September 2025 to February 2026. This is the second Brânncuși retrospective in the Dutch capital, the first having taken place more than 50 years ago. More details to be announced. The H’ART Museum is one of the museums marking Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary this year. From April until August, it is co-organizing an exhibition with The Leiden Collection dedicated to the master Rembrandt van Rijn. In the same context, the H’Art Museum (formerly the Armitage Hermitage) is presenting works by 75 artists depicting the city until 16 March. The anniversary is marked, among others, by the Rijksmuseum, which is offering a one-hour tour through the city’s history until October 26, and the Stedelijk has set up its impressive new sculpture room as a “present” for the city on its birthday. One of the most important modern art museums in the world, the Centre Pompidou – home to Brâncuși’s studio – will start moving in October 2024 for five years of renovations. It will close its doors completely in the summer of 2025. After that, many of his works will be temporarily loaned to European museums. The Pompidou Center located in the heart of Paris welcomed just over 3.2 million visitors in 2024, up 22% from the previous year. Of the total, more than 390,000 visitors saw the retrospective of Constantin Brâncuși, an artist considered the father of modern sculpture.
