A Queen Maria painting sold three times the estimated price

“Flowering Branches and Landscape,” an oil on canvas signed by Queen Maria of Romania and dated 1906, fetched the highest price at the first auction organized by Alis on July 5, which had a sell-through rate of approximately 40 percent.

With a starting price of 12,000 RON, the painting was sold for 32,000 RON.

The portrait“Ana Ghyka,” an oil on canvas by Lars Hansen, was sold at auction for 7,000 RON, which was also the starting price. “Roses,” an oil on cardboard by Constantin Artachino, was also sold for the same starting price of 5,000 RON.

“Disappointment,” an oil painting on cardboard by M.H. Maxy, with a self-portrait study on the reverse, was sold for 4,000 RON, which was the starting price.

Works by Nicolae Vermont, Constantin Piliuță, Ana Ruxandra Ilfoveanu, and Alexandru Țipoia also found buyers.

In the “Living Artists” section, which featured ten works, only“The Red Nude”— a pastel on gold leaf on paper mounted on cardboard by Vasile Pop Negreșteanu (b. 1955)—was sold , for 1,200 RON.

The auction of paintings and prints was led by“Târg în Orient,” an oil on cardboard by Samuel Mutzner, a work with a starting price of 15,000 RON, which remained unsold.
