Art Encounters Biennial 2025

The sixth edition of the Art Encounters Biennale in Timisoara takes place from May 30 to July 13, with the theme “Bounding Histories. Whispering Tales”.

Curators Ana Janevski (MoMA New York) and Tevž Logar (independent curator) invite you to reflect on the city’s complex past and discover the hidden stories of emblematic places: the Garrison Headquarters – a former military building, FABER – a former soap factory, and the headquarters of the Art Encounters Foundation, a space with an industrial and educational history.

For the opening weekend, May 30 – June 1, events such as guided tours, meetings with artists and curators, dialogues with artists, performances, workshops and discussions are scheduled.

Art Encounters Biennale 2025 brings together more than 100 works by 60 artists, including five specially commissioned creations that examine the city’s historic layers.

Ana Janevski is a curator and writer, currently a curator in the Department of Media Art and Performance at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA), she has coordinated more than 30 performances and helped shape the performance program at MoMA. She was curator at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, where she organized, among others, the exhibition “As Soon As I Open My Eyes I See a Film”, dedicated to Yugoslav film and experimental art of the 1960s-1970s. She is a regular contributor to publications and co-editor of works on performance and art history in the former Yugoslavia.

Tevž Logar, who has recently collaborated with the Accelerator mentoring and art production program in Bucharest, has worked with leading galleries and cultural institutions in Europe and beyond. Over the years, he has collaborated with institutions such as the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Łódź and the Ludwig Museum in Budapest. Moderna galerija in Ljubljana has often partnered him, as has the Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts.
His involvement in the Venice Biennale and collaborations with Routledge and Artforum in New York reinforced his status as a connoisseur of the international curatorial scene. Since 2023, he serves as chairman of the acquisitions committee of the NLB Bank SEE Collection in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
